Odishas Famous cinematographer, producer and director Sukumar Ganguly is no more. He breathed his last early Sunday morning at the age of 90.
Many distinguished guests visited his house and swarga dwara to pay their last respects to the acclaimed movie personality.
Born on May 10, 1925, Ganguly was the cinematography operator of ‘Sita Bibaha’, the first ever cinema to be made in Odisha in 1936. He also played an active role as co-producer in the production of movie ‘Sri Jagannath’, made in 1948. He shot to fame with the movie ‘Sri Sri Patitapabana’, which he produced under his banner Ganguly Film Production in 1962.
Ganguly, a remarkable photographer, was highly appreciated for his photographs depicting the riots between the Hindu Saints and Police personnel during the 1950 Nabakalebar of Sri Jagannath and border protests of Puri in 1956.
He received many prestigious awards such as Odisha Film Development Corporation Award, Mohan Sundar Deb Goswamy Memorial Award, Banichittra Samman, Abhinandanika Puraskar, Show Time Award, Nirman World Senior Citizen award, Bhubaneswar Mahotsav Award etc throughout his career for his distinguished work in the field of entertainment.
