ABOUT HARIHARA BESHA
During the time span of the Radha- Damodar Besha of Shree Jagannatha on each Monday, Harihara Besha of Lord Shree Balabhadra is done for a fortnight, i.e. from the darkmoon day till the fullmoon day.
In this Besha, half of the body of Balabhadra looks blackish while the other half looks whitish, which connotes that one half of His body is half hari (lord Vishnu) and the other half is Hara (lord Shiva) respectively on each monday.
This Panchaka. Deities are dressed like warriors on the extra day. In the recent past, this besha was last done on 16-11-1994. The previous four dates were 26-11-1993, 03-11-1968, 16-11-1967 and 26-11-1966.
JAGANNATH TEMPLE, PURI
The Jagannath Temple of Puri is a sacred Vaishnava temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath and located on the eastern coast of India, at Puri in the state of Odisha.
The temple is an important pilgrimage destination and is particularly visited by devotees of Supreme lord Sri Krishna and is one of the Char Dham pilgrimages that anyone is expected to make in one’s lifetime.
The major construction of Jagannath temple was initiated by king chodagangadeva (known for also building the Sun temple of Konark and several major Shaivism temples). And was completed by his grandson Anangabhimadeva in the late 12th century
